Criminology
Consensus perspective—is a sociological perspective that is ruled by social order. It infers that societies exist in certain state that is in certain stability. It is also known as functionalism. Most members of society have the core system of believes. In the view of citizens, law attends everyone equally. Concerning Criminal Justice, the organizations of criminal justice should collaborate to produce justice. Pluralist perspective—states that in society there are multiple diverse values and believes. The pluralist perspective underlines that society has the right to be multi diverse. There are many subgroups that hold their own values and believes. The formal laws regulate all walks of social life. The legal institutions work in terms of the best interests of their citizens. I think, United States can be in this category because contrary to other countries, laws work here. Conflict Perspective—was developed by Karl Marx in the 19th centuries. He researched capitalist society and rule that there are two classes in it: proletariat and bourgeois. Proletariat is the class of the poor and bourgeois are the rich. The majority of the population in Europe was proletariat at those times; however, one would think that the majority should have input or govern but it was not the case. The minority or the rich were presiding. It created a social conflict. It led to revolution in French and Russia because proletariat tried to overthrow bourgeois. The conflict theory can be applied to any system of life or institution. Conflict theory states that change only can be achieved through the conflict. Radical Criminology—a conflict theory that infers that capitalist societies as the owners of production use their power to suppress the poor class and they are the main cause of the crime. Left-Realist Criminology-is related to Marxism and New Criminology. The main goal is to solve crime on practical basis. Was developed by Jock Young. Three major causes of crime here: relative deprivation, marginalisation and subcultures. Feminist Criminology—originated in late 60s and is concerned with the underrepresentation of women in crime research. It criticizes sometimes the mainstream criminology as insufficient and androgenic. The main reason the movement arose is because the women were concerned that women as criminal offenders, women as criminal victims and women as workers in criminal justice system needed closer attention, support and new ways of representation. Peacemaking Criminology—is a non-violent way dealing with crime deterrence and reintegration into society. Also called Positive criminology. It uses alternative methods to prevent and fight crime. Convict Criminology—is based on the works of the ex-convicts who received academic background and started their own research. They describe their experience and research experience of other in terms how imprisonment is being affected by internal and external factors, gender differences, race, etc.
